Jennifer O'Connors
Jen O'Connors was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. She began working at her local hospital starting at age 16. Soon after, she attended Old Dominion University (ODU) where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After her time at ODU, she then worked in the Intensive Care Unit at Riverside Shore Memorial for 6 years while continuing her nursing education. She received her masters in critical care from ODU, and then returned for a post-master's certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Salisbury State University in Maryland.
Pediatrics is her passion. From the time she first became a nurse she always wanted to take care of children. Her first job as a Nurse Practitioner was in pediatrics and she has been working in pediatrics ever since. The thing she most enjoys about pediatrics is having the opportunity to get to know the children and their families and developing relationships with them. She enjoys being able to watch them grow up when they are healthy and help them when they are sick. In total, she has 12 years experience in pediatrics as a nurse practitioner and 18 years total of medical experience.
She worked on the Eastern Shore until she got married in June of 2009 to her husband Phil, a Registered Nurse at Sentara Leigh. They live in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach. Jen has two sons, Cooper, 12, and Clay, 10. Phil has two daughters, Katie, 19, and Cortney, 17. Normally, Jen and Phil stay pretty busy with all of the kid's activities. Cooper plays football, Clay takes karate, and Katie and Cortney have been playing volleyball since middle school. When they do get free time they enjoy traveling and looking for new places to visit.
